About the Founder ðŸ«‘

A former college student turned food-waste warrior, Nicole is living proof that the best ideas often come from everyday challenges. After one too many sad encounters with forgotten lettuce and past-prime produce, she teamed up with her dad to turn her grocery frustrations into a solution that helps others save money and reduce waste.

When she's brainstorming new features or dreaming up recipe algorithms, you can find her experimenting in the kitchen, turning almost-expired vegetables into creative concoctions. But her proudest achievement? Creating an app that her younger self desperately needed in college!

The Grocery Guru Story

As a college student juggling classes and campus life,

I learned that making every dollar count wasn't just

important—it was essential. Between lectures, study

sessions, and extracurriculars, I found myself constantly

on the move, and despite my best intentions, the fresh

produce I bought would often spoil before I could use it.

Every wilted spinach leaf and overripe banana

represented not just wasted food, but wasted money I

couldn't afford to lose.

The turning point came during a conversation with my

dad. As we discussed this common but frustrating

problem, a solution began to take shape: what if there

was an app that could help track fresh groceries and

notify you before they spoiled? As someone who loves

cooking, I wanted to take this idea even further. Why not

create something that could also suggest creative recipes

based on what needed to be used first?

That's how Grocery Guru was born—a simple solution to help people like me make the most of their groceries. By scanning barcodes of fruits and vegetables, users can easily log their fresh produce and receive timely reminders about when items need to be used. But we didn't stop there. The app's smart recipe recommendation system suggests delicious meals that prioritize ingredients nearing their expiration date, transforming the stress of "I need to use this soon" into an opportunity for culinary exploration.

What started as a way to save money has evolved into something more meaningful: a tool that makes grocery shopping more efficient, cooking more enjoyable, and sustainable living more achievable. Because sometimes the best solutions come from the simplest conversations—even one between a college student and her dad.
